ABOUT AWAKE HEART

“The openness and warmth of bodhichitta is in fact our true nature and condition. Even when our neurosis feels far more basic than our wisdom, even when we’re feeling most confused and hopeless, bodhichitta—like the open sky—is always here, undiminished by the clouds that temporarily cover it.”

—Pema Chodron

Awake Heart Yoga + Mindfulness Teacher Training was born from the truth that we are never separate from our true nature. Through the rich tradition of yoga, direct experience practices, philosophical studies, and community support, this training invites you to rest in remembrance of your true nature and to be in service to this world.

Your cohort will journey deep into the realms of yoga history, biomechanics, alignment, chakras & subtle body, mantra, mudra, ayurveda, restorative yoga, trauma-informed teaching, and more. This 300-hour Awake Heart course covers extensive advanced topics, such as teaching strategies and class planning, the art of holding space, leadership and relational skills, and safe and mindful hands-on assisting.

In addition to the formal curriculum, we will grow and play together in community. We will discover how yoga can be a vehicle for social change. We will learn how to live more truly and love more fully.

Who enrolls in Awake Heart teacher training? Close to 300 graduates from around the world apply Awake Heart’s educational benefits and personal enrichment in diverse fields, including counseling, education, bodywork, athletics, childcare, law, public policy, art, social justice, psychotherapy, healthcare, corporate management, coaching, and of course teaching yoga in various settings.

A desire to formally teach yoga and/or meditation is not a prerequisite for this training; however, if you are actively teaching or long to share the gifts of yoga, this training invites you to uplevel your skillset and prepares you to teach with confidence and compassion. Upon completion, you will have the ability to register as a 500-RYT registered advanced yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance.

Join us on a journey that will imbue your being with remembrance.

Located in the scenic Santa Cruz Mountains, Mount Madonna Institute provides accommodations and meals to support students enrolled in the training.

Meals are shared in a warm communal dining room with views overlooking the Monterey Bay. Our kitchen uses fresh, high quality ingredients, incorporating organic and local products whenever possible, and offers options for those with special dietary needs at every meal.

Staying on-land is optional, and you have the choice to commute instead. Of course, if possible, staying on land would create a more immersive and focused environment during your learning experience. ABOUT HANNAH

Hannah Muse (she/her) is a midwife of possibility and a beloved teacher of mindfulness, mysticism, and yoga. With deep devotion to social change and the spiritual path, Hannah is known for her profound ability to weave the opposites, integrating the mythical and practical, spiritual and physical, the intellectual and mystical. In her retreats, yoga teacher trainings, global meditation group, and Yoga Church and Ritual classes, she has a rare gift of grounding ancient wisdom into the relevant realities of modern life, making practices accessible and applicable to the students who find her.

Hannah has received in-depth training in various areas of yoga, meditation, and healing. Some of her most influential teachers include Baba Hari Dass (yoga & yogic philosophy), Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield (mindfulness meditation & Buddha dharma), Tom Myers and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen (anatomy), Dan Siegel and Rick Hanson (neuroscience of mindfulness), Peter Levine (trauma healing), Judith Lasater (restorative yoga), Dr. Vasant Lad and the distinguished faculty of Mt. Madonna’s health counselor program (Ayurveda), Michelle Johnson (yoga and social justice), and Joanna Macy (Buddhism, general systems theory, deep ecology).

For the past decade, Hannah has guided dozens of retreats and teacher trainings in India (alongside scholars of Nondual Shaiva Tantra, and with Sri Ram Ashram, the orphanage founded by her root teacher Babaji), Bali, London, Guatemala, Mexico, Portugal, and across the U.S. In addition to teaching around the world, Hannah also serves as Founding Board Member and current President of the Yoga For All Movement, a nonprofit organization that offers underserved populations access to the teachings of yoga and mindfulness.

Hannah’s teachings have been called paradigm-shifting, an agent of fierce compassion, radically tender, and life-giving. Hannah lives and loves between the redwoods and the sea in Santa Cruz, California, where you can find her in the ocean with her greatest teacher/14-year-old daughter Ruby Bea, dancing wildly, or meditating quietly.
